An archeological dig in 2010 uncovered Bury St Edmunds Bronze Age origins. Additionally they uncovered Roman artefacts. The town was a royal borough in the Saxons and obtained its title on account of it currently being the burial area of King Edmund The Martyr, who was killed via the Danes in 869
